Throwback Thursday - Andrei's Birthday!

This week’s throwback post is a mixture of current and throwback!

It features our good friend’s son’s birthday cakes from this year and last.
Last year Andrei requested a minecraft cake for his 9th birthday.

I did a bit of research and found an image of what a cake looks like in the actual game and had to recreate it! Cue lots and lots of squares cut out of icing!!

I really like the result though and thankfully so did Andrei!

This year Andrei requested a destiny themed cake. Again a little research and I found I wanted to recreate the cover of the game.

I broke out my airbrush and away I went!
I struggled to get a Navy edible airbrush ink from any local stores so my design is a little more black and grey but I think you can definitely see it was influenced by the cover image!

I wonder what computer game inspired cake I'll get to make next year!!

Linda's 70th Birthday

Well I’ve had a busy few weeks and I’m afraid the blogging fell by the way side... but I’m back!!
I have a new plan and hopefully it will fit better into my working and family life! So from now on my plan is to have;
‘Tasty Tuesday’ – A post on recent cakes/bakes/tasty treats... I’m also thinking of occasionally blogging about my healthier home cooking!
‘Throwback Thursday’ – I still have a huge back catalogue I haven’t covered so ill continue with this idea
‘Saturday Stampin’ – sharing my crafts, mostly using Stampin’ Up! products along, with my monthly blog hop posts (keep an eye out for this Saturdays!)

Anyway, back to this week’s post on Linda’s cake.

I know Linda through Nathan’s where I work, She is a regular on a Friday at our knit and natter group!
Linda just asked for a nice cake, no specific designs or colours, just something nice! So I went for tasteful flowers.

I don’t often make flowers so it did have its own challenges but I thought it turned out well.

I chose lemon as I know Linda bought a duck from us that was dressed in a lemon hat which she loved! And I made a selection of flowers to decorate the cake from all sides so no matter where people stood they would see pretty flowers!

I hope you like it!
See you al again soon!

Introducing the Stampin' Up! 2016-2018 In Colors

Hi everyone!

Welcome to our second Jems blog hop where we are showcasing the new In colors for 2016-2018.

This first card shows all 5 colours together, they are (from top to bottom) Flirty flamingo, Emerald envy, Peekaboo peach, Sweet sugarplum and Dapper denim. The card uses the Sprinkles of Life stamp set (I’m so glad this set carried over, it’s one of my faves!) and coordinating tree builder punch. The cone is stamped in Delightful Dijon and there’s a little clear Wink of Stella on each scoop of ice-cream for an added bit of shimmer – if you haven’t discovered Wink of Stella yet it’s AMAZING!! You’ll be addicted in no time!!

It’s hard to capture the effect properly on camera but you can see the shimmer a little here.

Next up I made a single colour card for each of the new colours, I used the various flowers from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set to simply stamp the top corner of each card and the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set for the sentiment. The cards are all made with Very vanilla and a layer of cardstock in the same colour as the ink. It would work just as well on Whisper white too!

 Flirty Flamingo
 Emerald Envy
 Peekaboo Peach

 Sweet Sugarplum

 Dapper Denim

Again I highlighted selected areas with a little clear Wink of Stella, hopefully you can see below!

Hope you agree the new colours are gorgeous!

More Dogs!

For my throwback post this week I thought Id feature my first dog cake back in May 2013.
I hadn’t made many models at this point and was fairly new to cake decorating so I was really pleased with how it turned out!

It was for a work colleague and I was asked if I could recreate their 3 dogs... they were so happy with the result I was then asked to make their wedding cake!! Again featuring dogs, Lady and the tramp this time!
I shall feature this cake soon!
