Come on you reds!

This weeks Throwback Thursday was totally chosen at random! It ended up being this cake I made just over a year ago for one of my work colleagues. It was a cake for her husband’s 60th birthday and was designed by her grandson which I think is a lovely idea; I hope I did his design justice!

Here’s the original sketch I was sent of what her grandson would like the cake to look like. For those of you that aren’t sports fans it is a Rotherham United shirt (I have to admit to googling the shirt as I had no idea what the logo looked like!)

I do have a habit of making HUGE cakes and this was no exception haha! It was half chocolate and half Victoria sandwich so perfect for a party where not everyone will like the same flavour.

Next week I’m hoping to take part in my first Blog Hop so I need to get practicing!! Fingers crossed it goes well, it goes live Saturday so make sure to check back!

As always thanks for reading,

Barbara's 60th Birthday

Today’s blog features a card and gift bag I made last month for our lovely friend/second mum Barbara! It was Barbara’s 60th birthday and so she deserved a special treat!
I didn’t make Barbara a cake as she was having afternoon tea (with plenty of cake!) then jetting off to India for 3 week so instead she got a thoughtful gift wrapped in packaging made with love.

The card is made using purely Stampin’ up! Products, It features the number of years stamp set and dies, the gorgeous love blossoms DSP and a circle of botanical gardens vellum. The main colours used are Rose red, blushing bride and mossy meadow.

The gift bag was made using the gift bag punch board and birthday bouquet DSP – I’m so sad this paper is being discontinued! It’s so beautiful! I’m very pleased I have a full unopened pack to play with! The ribbon used was from my local craft shop and you should have realised by now I love a big oversized bow!!

I love making cards for my friend and family; it’s so much more personal and fun! I have a list of how many cards I have to make each month and so I will be making a start on May’s cards soon!

Hope you all have a fab week, thanks for reading

Evie's 16th

As my Monday post this week was about Evie's 18th I thought it was only right to make my throwback post about Evie's 16th birthday! I had the pleasure of making this cake for her based on her love of photography and her beloved Canon camera.

The cake was a Victoria sandwich base with a chocolate cake camera on top! I have to admit if I was to make another i would use rice crispy treats for the camera part - they are much better for constructing sturdy topper. The cake has a softer edge to it and doesn't quite hold its shape as well - however as I'm self taught and often take on new challenges I've never attempted before, I'm pretty happy with the results still, and most importantly the birthday girl loved it and it was all about her after all!

There were lots of little details with Evie and 16 stamped into the fondant in several places.

I used my own Canon to try and replicate the details all around the camera. If i was to remake the cake I now have an edible printer so would put some imagery on the little screens!

And to finish it off a few flowers to make it a little more girly!

I'd love to have another go at a camera to see how my skills have developed 2 years on but I was and still am proud of my original efforts. I love the different variety of challenges my friends and family throw my way - long may it continue!

Evie's 18th!

Happy Monday to you all!

This weeks posts will be all about Evie.

It was Evie's 18th birthday last week and I'm showing off her cake and handmade card.
They both feature the Stampin' Up! balloon punch which is my current favourite - its just sooo versatile!

I used the punch and florist wire to create the balloon decorations (these aren't edible and were encased so nothing touched the inside of the cake) The gorgeous diamante 18 is from my local cake shop - I use these a lot as they are also a lovely keepsake for the special occasion.

The cake was a giant cupcake and as Evie's not a big fan of fondant icing I used chocolate fingers around the bottom of the cake and her favourite butter cream icing on top! I used my signature big bow with various ribbons and a cute button sewn into the middle of the bow to finish the cake off.

Evie's matching card was also done in black, white and silver to match her cake and features die cut numbers also from Stampin' Up!

I'll be showing off Evies 16th birthday cake on my throwback Thursday post this week so be sure to check back!

Nathan cakes!

Todays throwback post is dedicated to the few cakes I've made for Nathan.
I mentioned on Monday I worked with Nathan in his tearooms in Stannington. Nathan and his family are an inspiration. Nathan is partially sighted, has partial hearing, epilepsy and other learning difficulties. However none of this stops him from living his life to the fullest.
Nathan loves Disney and especially Mickey and Minnie mouse so for his 21st birthday last year I had to make him a Mickey mouse cake!

Heres a close up of Mickey - he was handmade out of sugarpaste so fully edible (If you could bring yourself to eat him!!) Im completely self taught so I was pleased with how he turned out for my first attempt!

Next is Nathans engagement cake, Nathan is engaged to Jessica and proposed to her the day his tearoom opened! Again i couldnt resist going with a Mickey and Minnie theme so went with this edible image on top.

Ive done lots of baking this week so I'll update with pictures soon!

Balloons for all occasions!

So I've had several birthday cards to make in April and I had a new punch to play with!
The balloon punch from Stampin' Up! is great for so many occasions and great to use alongside other stamps! So here's a few of the balloon theme cards I've made already for some special people in my life.

First up its my Dads birthday today, so I created this card using a fab little stamp from amazon to create the camera background, then the balloon punch and some silver mirror card to create the balloon decoration.

Next up is a card for Nathan who I work with at Nathans tea rooms. I actually used a Christmas stamp set here for the cute little penguin! I love this stamp set and knew I'd end up using it outside of Christmas!! I saw a similar card on Pintrest here. I love pintrest, its my guilty little pleasure when I'm in bed and everyone else is asleep!

Next is a card for my grandad from last week, It was my first play around with the balloon builder punch and party pants stamp set! This simple layout would be fab for all ages and would work in all different colour combinations. I can see me making more of these!

And last but certainly not least was this card I made for my two friends Andrew and Hayley who have just bought their first home together! I didn't have anything to specifically say "good luck in your new home" but as they love dogs I figured a dog holding balloons would work instead! The dog stamp set is another new addition to my collection and I have to say I love it so much! I cant wait to have a play with some more ideas I have floating around!

I will be sharing my other cards as they are received by their new owners,

My first throwback!

So for my first throwback post I thought I'd choose to showcase both a cake and one of my first Stampin' Up! creations. These were for my friend Claire's surprise baby shower just under a year ago.
Claire was "team yellow" so at the time we didn't know her baby bump was home to the beautiful Ella.

The theme for both my makes was yellow, I love my cakes to have a big over sized bow (where appropriate of course!) and they generally have a selection of different beautiful ribbons (I cannot enter my local fabric shop without buying at least 3 options and they often all make it onto my finished cake!)

My cake also featured a butterfly as a little nod to Claire's gorgeous Goddaughter Winter, who will forever be a beautiful butterfly <3

My baby shower card showcases the Stampin' Up! Bow maker punch, Triple banner punch, Teeny tiny sentiments stamps and Cherry on top designer series paper. The charms are from my local craft shop and finished the card off nicely!

As you can see my style is simple, clean, elegant.
...although I have to admit I make a mess while I'm creating/baking/crafting!

I hope you enjoyed my first little throwback, as I build my blog I will add links to where you can buy featured products through my stampin up shop and links to any inspiration used along the way!

Thanks for reading!

A happy Hello!

Welcome to my shiny new blog and my first blog post!
I'm completely new to blogging so it may take me a little while to get into the swing of things. I've been thinking of setting up a blog for a while now - I currently use facebook to document my cake and craft projects and I been thinking of having a blog to run along side it containing a little more of an insight into each project.
Thankfully members of my Stampin' Up! family have given me a little push to get things started so here it is!
My plan is to post a current project on a Monday and a throwback project on a Thursday.
I look forward to revisiting some past projects and having an excuse to make time to craft a little each week!!

Here's a little inspirational quote to get me started, this appeared on a facebook group I'm part of today and I thought it was very apt for my new blogging adventure!
